Using JMX for Administrative Tasks

Can JMX be used to stop a server after all queued and currently running reports/jobs are run?  I am trying to figure out a way to automate the process so I don't restart my services nightly but I could roll through them in the middle of the day or in in slightly off hours instead of being woken up in the middle of the night when one of them fails to come back online....

Any other ideas?
