Hi,

As long as your running a 64 bit o/s then 64 bit Cognos will be able to utilise the extra memory and increase java process memory.  This will only affect those services such as the content manager, dispatcher etc but will not affect the reporting or batch report processes as they are still 32 bit applications with a 2gb limit.

Kind Regards

Rob

Hi thank you for your reply , is there any IBM which have this info , i need to explain to my client. I thought with 64 bit windows OS  and cognos 8.4 can use maximum of 4GB ram , with 64 bit AIX O/s AND COGNOS 8.4 only can use 8 GB ram. Is this true?

Hi,

Have a look at this thread on the IBM developer works forum and especially the comments from Phil W.  It takes a bit of reading but does move to 64 bit architecture in the end. On 32 bit Cognos could only reference a maximum 2gb and effectively less than that, but there is effectively no limit with 64 bit as there is not with Linux or Unix systems either.

However, moving to 64 bit may not improve the performance as the report services are still 32 bit C++ applications with 2GB limit

I had a look around for you and I couldn't find anything specific so if you are concerned about updating your client, and I appreciate that you will want to do this on correct information, perhaps the best path would be to open an IBM informational service request.  You should get a response in a few hours and you will then have it from the horses mouth or so to speak.

Kind Regards
