Cognos (connection trouble, i need help!!!)

I have a problem with connection to ORACLE 10 on the portal:
UDA-SQL-0432 Unable to locate the gateway "libcogudaor"

I don't have this problem from the framework(test data store is OK)

Do you have the oracle bin directory added to your windows variabele path?

and connect from SQL PLUS IS OK

Did you install the oracle client on the XP machine with the "administrator" option to make sure all is included (especially oraoledb10.dll)

This issue of libcoguador is something for which even Cognos does not provide a definitive answer because the reasons that cause this issue could be anything from your LD_LIBRARY_PATH,  .profile, TNS Entries, oracle libraries, fully qualified domain names in TNS entries, etc etc.

According to my experience (may not be 100% solution), Cognos does not end the connections to database even after a report execution is completed. Too many connections from Cognos to your db could be the issue. Restarting your cognos server should solve it (but not a permanent solution). Restart closes all connections to database.

I am still researching, somewhere in cognos you can set the timeout for db connections. I have to try this option before I can suggest you.

I've just encountered this issue as well.
I've resolved it here by locating ALL tnsnames.ora files on my system and making sure that they all contain the same information. (I had 2 of them)
Not sure why the original was being used some of the time, and the short one the rest of the time, but once they were the same and I restarted the Cognos service, the issue went away.
This should work for both Window and Linux.

Looks like  a Dispatcher problem in Connections
I diod the following things and it worked

Routing rule was defined for windows dispatcher
Without it it will be hit or miss (will work whenever you happen to get routed to windows - will fail when you are routed to Unix)

Thanks DaveHull for that advice.  Clearing the other tnsnames.ora and restarting the Cognos service did the trick for me
