Accessing charts from SDK-JAVA

Hi
Are there any specific classes provided by SDK(JAVA) by which we can access,view ,alter the chart reports eg bargraphs.The documentation speaks the xml way but is there any possibilty to access from SDK-JAVA.
I wanna change the properties of a bar-chart at runtime and thought ,it can be done through SDK.
So plz guide me my frnds.
