Portal pages schortcuts
« on: 17 Oct 2016 03:45:37 am »
Hi there,

In my organisation we have alot of endusers with portal pages that have ibm navigation items in them they are pointing to shortcuts that are pointing to reports.
This all is in version 10.2.1 and workes fine for end users as they know where their reports are.
now we want to move to Cognos 11 and from what i have read and seen there are no more shortcuts and portal pages is also not the standard.
so how can i provide 300+ endusers the reports on the home screen of is there a way to convert old portal pages to the new Cognos 11?

sorry for the bad english and grammar

I was at a Cognos 11 session hosted by my local Cognos user group and the IBM reps mentioned that support for portal pages was being actively looked at for future feature releases.  Having reliance on lots of portal pages is one of the few use cases they advise waiting to migrate.  As for 'shortcuts', there will be a REST api document coming out in future and I expect that that will provide more robust linking capability.  This is not "official from vendor", just what we were told.

hopefully this is helpful.

Interesting that IBM Cognos is considering additional Portal Page support.

For additional information on all the changes for Portal Pages in IBM Cognos Analytics 11 and partial solutions using what IBM Cognos is calling the "Legacy Portal", see the following: http://bit.ly/2jl73BD

One option that can be done regardless of IBM Cognos direction is a custom web application front end which leverages the IBM Cognos SDKs, which may be simpler than you think....

Hi bartburg,

As everyone knows there is no Portal tabs concept in C11. However if you really need to provide portal tabs to your end user you can try to use new  "Extension" feature. Using this you create your each tab as an extension then include it in your C11. Based on role you can assign your own extension.

For example :Assume that In C10 'sales group' have access to 'sales portal tab' ,in C11 create an extension with 'sales portal tab' and assign this to sales group.

So far I can see this is the only option which can help us to create portal tab kind of thing in C11.

some work around required but they are not exact portal tabs.
