Box - Line - Arrow in Cognos
« on: 15 May 2018 07:59:04 am »
Hi, :) :)

I need to draw something like the following in one of my reports. Basically, trying to show a flowchart kind of look between boxes. Any help will be really appreciated.

Show box and then show the -------------------------------->. I can do the box using tables but not sure how to do the straight line connected to arrow (not dotted line).

Thanks a lot!

Maybe you could look at the option of using images for your arrows?

Just a thought.

I think an image would give you the best result, but if pressed for an alternative, how about a block set to a small height with a fill color, along side a ">" text object of the same color to simulate the appearance.

The attached report spec uses this idea in case it helps.

You would be able to do left <, right >, or upwards ^ but I don't think there is a standard keyboard character for downwards. Of course the size of the arrow would be easily modified whereas images are perhaps best rendered for an intended size.

The easy way is use 'Webdings' or 'zapfdingbats' font family to draw geometric shapes in report.

Hope this makes sense.

You are correct also. I did try the fonts approach but it seems like using tables and block is easier especially for dropping a measure in the box.
The example from Lynn is doing the trick but now,

1) I have to change it based on creating a Decision box. See below for the Yes/No decision Box (WANT TO BE HAPPY?)
2) I also have to figure out how to do Down Arrow as the arrows show in this URL demo of a flowchart.

Thank you for your time.
