Report Studio / Re: Dynamic aggregation required

The basic approach is to push the base query elements into the reference query and do the computation there.
Oh.... yeah, that makes perfect sense. I'll try that and slap my forehead a couple of times in the process. Thank you very much! :)
Report Studio / Re: Conditional formatting & master detail relationship
« Last post by superdesi on 17 Nov 2017 03:33:20 pm »

Are the queries joined in the Query Explorer and the results of the join delivered into a new query? If so, why do you need to use a master/detail relationship in your report? Couldn't you just base your list on the query containing the results of the join?

If you have joined the queries in Query Explorer, have you tried changing the cardinality of the join to be optional (eg 0..n instead of 1..n or 0..1 instead of 1..1)?

You could then use a conditional format to highlight where the two address values do not match?

Hi there...

Just an update.  You were absolutely right. After changing cardinality.... It worked beautifully.

Thanks so much for ur help
Report Studio / Re: How to make the Active report in the middle

Active Reports Tip 4: iPad specific authoring

If you are authoring reports to be consumed by mobile users on iPads you should be aware of their native resolution. Reports should be sized to 1024px by 704px with the Page Body padding set to 0. This will minimize scrolling and truncation.

Active Reports Tip 5: Reducing Chart Overhead

In an active report, charts are not dynamically generated(this is for version 10.1, after v10.2.2 it is dynamic now). Chart views are rendered at runtime and stored within the MHT bundle. Chart heavy active reports could yield large output files. Keeping the charts to a minimum can help reduce the file size and improve performance of an Active report.

Extra Categories-for your to connect the chart without display the filter item. and In the Node’s properties, change the Category Range to Filtered Data.

HOW DO I ADD “ALL” TO THE DROPDOWN LIST?--Specify a default list item by changing the No Value List Item property to Show

 CAN I DELETE A CHART WITHOUT DELETING ITS QUERY? -- The answer is to Cut (CTRL + X) the Chart

When you have two or more reports open at the same time, it may seem like sometimes Copy and Paste works and sometimes it doesn't. Here are the "rules":
Copy and Paste currently only works in Internet Explorer
It only works for certain items. The common ones I use are Local Classes, Queries, and Tables (and their contents)
You can Copy and Paste a List/Crosstab/Chart only if the underlying Query also exists in the target report.

HOW DO I DETERMINE WHICH QUERY A RAVE CHART IS USING?--select the Data Container, now there is a Query Property.

if the user selected to re-prompt (re-loading the prompt page), wouldn't that trigger the OnLoad() again essentially replacing the user's selection with the default one again?
Reporting / Re: Drill-through
« Last post by rockytopmark on 17 Nov 2017 01:27:02 pm »
I wish I had a better resolution, but I resolved my issue by adding a 2nd drill-through definition.  Once I had 2 defined, the original drill definition now worked!  For kicks, I removed the new definition... the original drill stopped working again.  Finally, I removed the original, leaving only the new drill, and it worked as intended all by it's lonesome self.

Penny -

"this doesn't show the expression used in the filter.  Was it equal to, greater than?"

In most cases, the only thing that will ever change is the parameter Values... so you can simply copy the filter text into a report expression, and concatenate the parameter values.  For example, to show a filter on someDate...

To gets something in the report's output like:

'someDate = 2017-11-17'

...for the actual filter:

[namespace].[querySubject].[someDate] = ?p_someDate?

could be coded in a report expression, like:

'someDate = ' + paramValue('p_someDate')
'querySubject.someDate = ' + paramValue('p_someDate')
<whatever is desired>  + paramValue('p_someDate')

This way, the user knows whether it was = or > or <, etc...

Reporting / Re: 11.0.8 Date functions broken?
« Last post by rockytopmark on 17 Nov 2017 01:05:15 pm »
current_date is still there, and as always, is only available in data item (query) expressions.
AsOfDate() is available in report expressions only.

date2string() is only a report expression function and is working fine in 11.0.8.

string2date() is only a report expression function and is working fine in 11.0.8.

Reporting / 11.0.8 Date functions broken?

Hi all,

Has anyone had issues with the Cognos Report date functions? It looks like they've changed the behaviour of these and I can't get any of them to work.

date2string, string2date, current_date has been renamed to AsOfDate(). I wish they'd document this stuff. I guess that's too much to ask.

I noticed too that the cast function is gone from this release.
