Can metrics studio use cubes as a data source

JCH:
Migrating from 7.3 to 8.4.1.
Using cubes as a data source for scorecards
all metadata appears intact, no data in the scorecards.
Cubes were upgraded to 8.4.
A package was created.
Unable to select the package created with the cube in metric studio (it is grayed out).
Is it possible to use a package created from a cube in metric studio?  If so, what are the poossible issues.
