Access Manager 7.5 on Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2016

Hello All:

I am wondering if anyone on the forum has been able to get the Access Manager 7.5 on Windows Server 2012 or 2016. And, I am fully aware that current and official Supported Windows OS Environment for Ser 7 is Windows 2008 Server or below, however, we are in a bind hence this post.

We are letting a legacy BI application die at the end of support of Series 7, however, at the same time we have stumbled on a corporate requirement to upgrade the under lying OS from Windows 2008 to 2016 immediately based on our external security audits.

Any feedback on Series 7 Acc Man running on Windows Server 2012 or 2016 is appreciated.

The issue here isn't Access Manager per se - it's the underlying Sun One Directory Server that Access Manager holds its content in that is the sticking point. Sun One won't run on any version of Windows Server after the 2008 version.

I do dimly recall that there was an alternative to using Sun One way back - I think you could use Active Directory instead, and have Access Manager utilise this? Not sure if it's still an option, but it might be worth you investigating? From the looks of the 7.5 documentation, it does still appear to be an option...

Also I recall that Access Manager can use LAE files to authenticate, but I'm not sure if these can be used standalone without a Directory Server...

I've not tried running it on Windows 2012 or 2016.  I guess it would be fairly trivial to test this.

In terms of replacing the Sun Directory server component, consider using AD LDS, this works very well as a replacement and is included as an option for all Windows Server versions.

You can export your LAE file for the Sun Directory Server and import the data into AD LDS.

As long as you can test that Access Manager is working as expected you should be fine.

If you have Windows 7 machines still hanging around, perhaps you'd be able to just run Access Manager clients on Windows 7 boxes or within VM's?
