Hello guys,

My company uses Cognos BI and TM1 version 10.2.2 Enterprise Edition with more than 50 licenses.

Since we don’t use all the licenses (only 8 are really operational), and for financial reasons, my company has decided to buy few licenses of IBM planning analytics Express (Less than 20 licenses), and upgrade from 10.2 to planning express in a new server.

I would like to know whether it is a straightforward upgrade so no change in authentication source (We actually use the active directory)?

Some BI reports are with CQM, would it be a problem in upgrading?
Also, I would like to hear advises from you before proceeding.

Thank you in advance for your time and help!

Hi,

Express these days is just a licensing model. Before version 10.2.2, Express was its own custom product, but now it isn't. You use the same installs as the enterprise versions of Planning Analytics (TM1) and Cognos Analytics (Cognos BI). From a technical perspective, I don't see any problems in upgrading.

However (there's always a "but", isn't there), you need to check your license entitlements carefully. As far as I am aware there is no mechanism to trade or exchange Cognos BI licenses and TM1 licenses for Express licenses. I'm pretty sure it would mean you ditching all your existing licenses and buying a complete new set of Express licenses (including the Express connectors for Reporting and Planning).

Cheers!

MF.
