Using Substring Function in a DMR model

Hello Folks,

I am currently working on a DMR model in Cognos 11. (11.01.3) I have observed that when using relational functions in a chart / crosstab , I get an error 'Illegal Monitor State Exception Error'

Can someone please explain why is this happening. Also, please advice how can I achieve an equivalent of substring in this scenario.
