Title: Testing a published package
Post by: raabjerg on 28 Jul 2010 04:14:48 AM
Hi,

I am facing a scenario where I would like to test a published package. I have already tested in FM, but would like to query directly towards production version. Is there any facility to do this?

(sorry if this is not technically within the actual Framework Manager, but guessing it belongs here in any case)

Kindly,
raabj

Raabj,

Why dont you just rename the package and publish it to Cognos 8, change the persmissions so that only you can see the package and away you go?

Thanks, that is a helpful suggestion. I might go that way.

If possible, however, I would like to be able to run user-defined queries against my package for testing purposes - do you know if there is any functionality for that, or is that only possible in FM when building the model?

Raaj,

I do not know if there is functionality for that within cognos connection however we have a set of standard reports that coveres all the bases in out cognos connection which we just re assign to the package we want to test.

You could also create User defined query definitions within FM to view the output data of selected tables, we use this mainly to test joins and business rules.
