Title: Question regarding content store upgrade from 8.3 to 8.4
Post by: pkrishnaq on 21 Aug 2010 02:26:56 PM
Can someone please confirm with the steps I am about to follow for an upgrade?
I have a server 'A' which has version 8.3. We got a new server B which we are planning to install 8.4 and import the content store from server A.Here are my steps:
1.Install 8.4 on B
2.Copy contents of classes12.jar to the relevant cognos directory
3.Create virtual directories in IIS
4.Copy the  tnsnames.ora file from server A and place it in Server B
5.Here is where I need to know what content store configurations I need to make in Cognos Configuration for server B
6.Export content store from server A via cognos connection
7.Place it in the deployment folder at server B
8.Go to cognos connection and import this baby.
9.Run framework manager and the models.publish the package.
10.Run the reports to test.

Please help me with the content store settings. Is it the exact same schema and username/password as in server A?

Thanks in advance. :)

If you are using the same content store db from 8.3 as the content store db for 8.4, then yes. Although its better to take a backup before you do it... Also, you don't have to do the deploy from server A to server B...

Hi tupac,
thanks for your response.
I have created a new username and password over at server B for the same content store database.
What is the 'service name' in the configuration settings? Is it the schema?Should I have a different service name if I dont want to overwrite the old schema?

M.O.B !!

Alright, everything looks fine in Cognos configuration.BUT, when i type in localhost/cognos8 ;it doesnt work.It says the page cannot be displayed.
I have installed the virtual directories in IIS .

cognos8-read
cgi-bin- read and execute.

I am using the same active directory namespace as in old server A. Should I shut down server A and then run the cognos page from server B. Please help.

are they both using the same port nos. 80 and 9300 etc., if yes then yes, you would have to shut down one of the services or use different port numbers...

Alright,new issue..grrr hehe

When I log into the new 8.4 cognos page , I cant log into the old 8.3 site (server A).

But if I logout of the 8.4 site, I can get into old 8.3 site.Hmmm...
