Hi
I have a request to have several reports run biweekely. They want the reports to run as a pdf version and be stored on a common shared drive to be accessible by other users.
is this possible
thanks bunker
Hi Bunker,
Yes you can schedule and save reports to be stored on a shared drive. Its alot easier if you are on 8.3 and above although still possible on earlier verions.
On 8.4 you just need to make a change to the global configuration within the Cognos configuration tool and then set up the directories in administration in Cognos connection.
In the Installtion and Configuration Guide look in the section
1. Customising IBM Cognos 8 for your Environment
2. Changing Default configuration Settings
3. Saved Report Output
Then
In the Administration and Security Guide look in:
1. System Administration
2. Server Administratiuon
3. Saved Report Output
Kind Regards
Rob
After you define 'Archive Location File System Root' in the global configuration, restart Cognos and then go to 'Cognos Administration'-->'Configuration'-->'Dispatcher and Services' and click on the icon that looks like a folder tree structure.
This allows you to add a 'New' folder for specific report outputs under the defined location.
Then when you schedule the report, you can select the newly created output location to save the outputs.
We have this set up for reports that save/burst outputs locally and the folder name makes it easier for finding specific outputs.
hi
i do not want all reports saved to a specific shared drive but only for a specific model. this one particular model the business users want 6 reports that they will have created saved to a shared drive which will be reviewed by a business user and then emailed if required to speciifc no cognos users.
is this still possible?
regards bunker
I'm not sure if a location can be specified for a model.
However, once you add the archive root location in configuration, follow my steps above to create a folder for the model in Cognos administration.
Then schedule those 6 reports with options to save output locally in the folder.
This way, you'll have outputs of those reports in a shared location.
can the folder for teh archieve root location be on a different server. i want to have this folder on a shared network drive on a seperate server for non cognos users to see
still possible?
regards bunker
I haven't tried saving on a folder in different server.
Try it out and see. I believe it works as long as the user or machine has access to write/modify in the shared location.
