Title: Cognos 8.4, Active Directory Security: Testing for Users
Post by: IrishCognos on 20 Sep 2010 06:24:57 AM
Just moving to Cognos 8.4 (on Unix) from a 7 environment (on Windows). We have a DMR that will be analysed by QS, AS and RS. There will be datalevel security to allow users see only approved cost centres. All users sign on using their network ID.

How can we test users data level security without knowing their netword passwords? Previously on Access Manager we could assign a password to the user. We will need to give the owning department of the dataset access to test the data visible to a set of named users.
Thanks

You could try setting up temporary accounts in your Active Directory and use those in Cognos for testing data level security.

When it works, substitute the temporary accounts for the real accounts in Cognos and it should fall into place.

We tested our TM1 data level security by granting one of our developer accounts access to certain cost centres and confirmed that the results in Cognos reports were being restricted.
