Title: Cognos migration to new server
Post by: LuckyJim1001 on 21 Oct 2010 05:44:03 AM
Hi all,

We want to move our existing Cognos 7 setup to a new server and I am looking for pointers.

The existing machine is a Win Server 2003 and we are moving to Server 2008

We are not upgrading from 7 as we plan to move to SSRS.

I will be the first to admit I have never used Cognos and we have no inhouse expierence of it.

Apologies for the open nature of the question. I am hoping some of you guru's out there will say
"it's easy, just follow this link for instructions...." :-)

Many thanks in advance.

Even with the most recent version of series 7 BI, Windows 2008 is not a supported platform
(see http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=3635&uid=swg27016811 (http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=3635&uid=swg27016811) )

You may want to consider leaving the server in place until a compliance service pack is released.

If you must move forward, I would encourage you to seek outside assistance.  I don't believe that there is a vendor-documented process for server migration, much less one that includes moving to an unsupported platform.

Yes, Windows 2008 Server is not a supported environment for series 7. I think it should be doable but it will be on your own risk ..
