Title: Unicode support for powerplay cubes?
Post by: EarthDog on 20 Nov 2010 12:05:40 AM
Hi All!

Very excited for the new release.

A question to anyone that may know the answer?

Will i be able at LAST to have unicode in cube files?

Please let the answer be yes :))

I don't know for sure, but I strongly suspect the answer is no.  I haven't heard of any real changes to Transformer/PowerCube technology for the Cognos 10 release.  The version of C10 I have up at the moment doesn't have the full documentation set included (don't ask!!), so I can't refer to the manual at present to check.

Regards,

MF.

Nope, sorry. I've just tried it with a FM Package data source as well as IQD, and while it doesn't give you errors like with 7.4.4, it does give you lovely question marks.

If anyone has figured out a solution, please let us know...

Sorry, there are no changes in this regard in 10.1.

Transformer processes text in the current code page.

If you build on UNIX/Linux, you can use UTF-8 as the current code page, and thus Transformer will process data in Unicode. It will store data in the PowerCube in UTF-8.

So the best you can do (as of 10.1) is metadata modelling on Windows (restricted to the character set of your locale settings) and generating categories and building cubes on UNIX/Linux.

If it helps, the supported environments for Cognos 10 can be found here (http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg27019126#os).
