Hi all,
Can I install Cognos 8.4 (FM and BI Server) on Windows 7 Home Premium edition.
Thanks in advance...
Sarayu
Think it will be fine but you might run into issues with IIS since, and I can't be 100% right now, 7 comes with IIS 7.5 and Cognos 8.4 supposedly does not support 7.5.
You can get by by installing Apache on Windows and using that for Cognos instead of IIS or you can try searching the IBM KB to see how to configure IIS 7.0 and try and configure 7.5 the same way and it might end up working
Can u install cognos8.4 with windows7 means.send that model

Hi there
I know it can work, but I'm just warning you that you will not be supported by installing on Win 7 (anything) for 8.4
See
"https://www-304.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg27014110#OS"
In my experience the only way that you can do an install of 8.4 on Win 7 is via the XP emulation provided as part of the Win 7 OS.
I'm also assuming you are referring to 8.4 and not 8.4.1 which does happen to be supported.
See
"https://www-304.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg27017522#os"

Hi bkv.cognoise.
I had a look at the attached document and its for 8.4.1 which I mentioned was supported. In responding you need to be specific about the version. 8.4 is NOT supported on Windows 7 and never will be. If you attempt to install 8.4 on Windows 7 you will get a message saying the operating system is not compatible. Hence my suggestion to use the XP emulation.
Just a heads up.
Cheers

Hi AussiePete2011,

Just so everyone knows , even 8.4.1 does not jive very well with Windows 7. One of my clients have it running that right now and it has a bunch of problems including sign-on problems, erratic errors that come and go away by themselves etc. The client is among world's topmost hardware companies and they haven't been able to make it stable yet even with IBM support.

Hi MFGF,
thank you very much
thanks

Regarding support, IBM documentation can be confusing so be sure to read carefully. Windows 7 is supported for 8.4.1 as client only! FM, Transformer, and client access to server are supported - as per the IBM document linked here up this thread. Windows 7 is NOT a supported environment for Cognos BI Server 8.4.1.
Having said that, I installed Cognos 8.4.1 on Windows 7 several times with much success, although there are some flakes and quirks. I will NOT recommend any of my clients to have their production environment based on Windows 7 (Because it is not supported and because it's not very stable). However, if it's a home installation for you (As it seems to be since you're using Win7 Home version) it should be fine.
As for 8.4, I never tried and it might be even flakier (Though I'm pretty certain it would work).
Hi Nimrod Avissar,
Thanx for the information Bro,

Hi bvk.cognoise,
You told that, you have document to install Cognos 8.4.1 on Windows 7. Can you send it to my id ...The muppet strikes again! Please don't include your email address in posts. By all means send it as a PM, but please don't tempt the spammers and phishers by posting addresses in open threads. Ta. Meep. ...
Let me say: WinXP still rules. Vista and Windows7 are for kiddies ;D
But honestly if you can run a virtual machine and install WinXP on it , you may find yourselve in heaven. Especially cause the dreadfull IIS 7.x will not be encountered.
Spread the word, my forum friends. As much as we long for the old pre-euro currency (in my case : gulden) back. we should also demand WinXP back ::) :o ;)
