Title: Cognos 8.4 compatibility with ACtive directory 2008 R2
Post by: namra43 on 03 May 2011 02:39:10 AM
Hello all,

we are running IBM Cognos 8.4 in our environment with our Active directory running on Windows 2003 Servers. we are in process of upgrading our domain to Windows Server 2008 R2. Can someone please advise if Cognos will work after we introduce Windows Server 2008 R2 domain controller or do we need to apply any patches or upgrade Cognos.

Thanks

Hi there

Answer
8.4.0 (nope)
Microsoft Active Directory Server 2003   Windows   Active
Microsoft Active Directory Server 2000   Windows   Compatible

8.4.1 (SORT OF)
Microsoft Active Directory Server 2008 R2   Windows   Compatible
Microsoft Active Directory Server 2008   Windows   Active
Microsoft Active Directory Server 2003   Windows   Active

Remember the 3rd party policy by IBM as well.

Abstract
All versions stated of an environment presume the initial release of a 3rd party product without any need for patches/service packs or equivalent terms unless stated. Equally, unless stated, IBM Cognos presumes that the 3rd party product has not been configured to disable new features (compatibility modes) and that all patches/service packs are upward compatible for our products from the versions stated.

All IBM Cognos 8.4.1 BI 32-bit versions will integrate with 32-bit 3rd party libraries only. IBM Cognos 8.4.1 BI 64-bit installs will integrate with 64-bit Java environments only, other integration points require 3rd party 32-bit libraries.

All references to Windows refer to Windows on x86 or x86-64 architecture.

Software environments for IBM Cognos 8.4.1 are listed as Active, Compatible or Not Supported. Environments denoted as active are environments currently tested by IBM Cognos. Although environments denoted as compatible may also be tested, testing may be limited or support may be based on compatibility statements from IBM Cognos partners and third-party vendors. Older releases of environments may transition from active to compatible over time as significant testing would have occurred in previous IBM Cognos releases.

Cheers
