Title: Cognos holding on to memory
Post by: SynexusStuart on 13 Jul 2011 07:48:53 AM
Hi,

We have a 4 server cognos environment:

1 = Gateway/content manager server
2 = BI Dispatcher (primary)
3 = BI Dispatcher
4 = DataManager Server

1,2 and 3 are all VM on the same physical box.

We have a problem with numbers 2 and 3 (particularly #3) in that when someone runs a particularly heavy report or query, the physical memory usage goes up to maximum (4gB) and then, even though the report has finished, the memory usage remains high for a very long time afterwards. it is crippling reporting speed.

We can adjust the set up of these servers but we're not sure what to adjust first to try and improve performance. Can anyone give us a steer?

Cheers
Stuart

Assuming that you are on IBM Cognos 8, the following "IBM Cognos 8 BI Performance Tuning Cheat Sheet" may help you get started: http://public.dhe.ibm.com/software/dw/dm/cognos/performance/cognos_specific/cognos_8_performance_tuning_cheat_sheet.pdf

You can access the various tuning values by going to Cognos Administration (via Cognos Connection) > Configuration tab > Dispatcher and Services choice > choose the dispatcher of interest > Set Properties > Settings tab.
