Title: Cognos 10 Linux Requirements
Post by: rajua99 on 26 Aug 2011 12:33:18 PM
Hello,

We are planning to deploy our cognos environment on Linux. I am trying to find the minimum requirements for Linux environment on IBM website with no luck.
Can someone point me to the right direction where can i find that document online for the Linux environment.

Thanks,
Raju

As long as you have 2GB of minimum RAM space and 2.5 GB of hard disk space , you should be good to go and
File descriptor limit set to 2048 on UNIX and Linux

IBM have a specific server sizing utility which is based on the number of concurrent users, the types of users, the mix of reports etc. They don't really specify a generic minimum specification because it can vary so widely depending on the audience and the workload.

I would have to say that 2Gb memory sounds way too small to me though. You may get it running alone within this, but it would probably not be sufficient for much more than just getting the services started.

MF.

I would concur with MF.We also went through this lengthy exercise with IBM to determine the best size of the servers to install C10 in a truly distributed environment, and for our Dev servers (thats what we have till now), we are using HyperVisor machines (VMs) with RAM 8 GB and 4 GB (2 app tier servers for HA)..but again we scaled it down based on our Dev setup.

I'd like to change to question to "Which version of Linux should we use?".  According to 10.1.1 Software Environments document (http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg27021368), Redhat 6.0 is unsupported (fine), but only RH 5.3 is supported.  Is the newest version of 5 (5.7) allowed?  Our applications people won't allow us to install 5.7 on a new server because it's "not supported", but we think it's a bad idea to install a new system with an old release.  Thanks.
