Title: Install Cognos 8 on multiple servers, any howto?
Post by: Knight on 08 Nov 2011 01:15:20 PM
Hi!

Is there some sort of howto/redbook/etc... that describes how to install Cognos 8 on multiple servers?

I am being asked to setup/make sure everything is ready to put in Producton three application servers (we currently have one, two more will be added) and two gateway servers.

Part of the setup was already done by, AFAIK, our former Cognos admin (which left the company).

Is there a document/howto somewhere that describes what has to be done so that I can make sure what has already been done is OK and if anything is missing?

Thank you!

Nick

The Installation and Configuration guide is pretty detailed in these areas:

http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/c8bi/v8r4m0/index.jsp?topic=/com.ibm.swg.im.cognos.inst_cr_winux.8.4.1.doc/inst_cr_winux.html

It has a section on planning the installation which includes distributed components on multiple servers, and later on a section for how to physically install across multiple machines. It's a good place to start.

Regards,

MF.

Be leary of the documentation regarding what services need to run on which servers, depending on their roles.  I have found inconsistency b/w documentation sources from IBM and feedback from Cognos Support - feedback from tech's is the best.  It will also depend on how many servers you are running with...if only running a couple of servers then there may be less concern for this.

(Sorry for the delayed reply...)

Thank you both!

I'll look at the information you provided MFGF and keep that in mind jeffowentn...

Once again thank you!
