Per the following doc from IBM (for v8.2, I know):
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21341623
I should be able to rename the target report of a drill-through relationship without breaking that relationship.
However, that is not my experience.
We just upgraded to v10.1 and are seeing the following problem. I cannot tell whether the problem occurred in v8.4 as we don't have that version available to us any longer.
Report A drills to Report B.
Report B drills to Report C.
All reports work fine, including the drill-throughs.
We then rename "Report C" to "Report CC" by using the Set Properties dialog.
Report A and Report B work fine, except when we try to drill-through to Report CC.
We get the following error:
RSV-SRV-0040
The report server encountered an internal error. Check additional information associated with this error message. If cause of problem cannot be ascertained, increase the logging level in the IBM Cognos administration tool and reproduce the conditions that caused the error. If the problem persists, see the problem determination information on the IBM Cognos Support Portal page at http://www-947.ibm.com/support/entry/portal/Overview/Software/Information_Management/Cognos_Business_Intelligence.

Am I doing something wrong? Or might this be a problem in our installation?
It depends where you configured your drill through. By the sounds of it you created the drill in the report itself via Report Studio. In this case you would have to edit the report "B" so that it references the renamed report "CC" as it will still try to go to report "C" which effectively no longer exists.
The case where renaming would not affect drill throughs is when the drill through was created via Drill Definitions.
Grim is correct...the drills are defined in the report def. We had not understood that these would not be maintained, but that makes some sense.
Now for the (kinda) newbie question...what's the alternative? You mention "Drill Definitions". I recall seeing this ability in the Launch drop-down in C8.3, but it is not there in our C10 install. Maybe it moved? Maybe my perms are wrong (I am supposed to be a Sys Adm).
My admin just told me that, though I am in the System Administrator group, there appears to be a problem that prevents me from accessing the Drill Definitions. So that's a different issue...and one we'll tackle.
Thanks, Grim, for the answer.
Glad to help.
