Title: Migration of cognos from 8.3 to 10.1

Hi friends ,

Please let me know the advantages of moving from 8.3 to 10.1 ?
What are the major issues  while migarting  to 10 ?

The advantages are that you will be moving to a supported platform. The core architecture of 10 is essentially the same as in 8, and most reports should update successfully. I would advise using Lifecycle Manager to help with the process and to identify any issues with specific reports.

When you get to the 10 platform, you have a shiny new charting engine to play with, the option to start using Dynamic Query Mode for better caching and query planning/reuse, and a new user experience in Business Insight/Business Insight Advanced. You also have iPad deployment capabilities and Active Reports, plus support for Cognos Insight desktop etc.

Admin is pretty much the same in 8 and 10, as it's the same architecture. The Admin Console with the system performance metrics was introduced for the 8.3 release, so you already have these. You will, of course, have better support for newer platforms/browsers/databases etc in 10.

what is the biggest different between cognos8.3 and cognos10.1?

The wise-guy answer is, of course, 1.8 :)

Cognos 10 introduces a lot of new user interface innovations and some improvements to the query engine and charting engine.  You can find the details in the New Features Guide here:
