Title: Is there a way to allow user to have customized security?
Post by: pkrishnaq on 11 Jun 2012 03:20:15 PM
Hi folks,
I have 2 folders A and B.
Can I have a specific user to have rights to edit reports in folder B and then move them to folder A. But in folder A, user cannot edit the report.
I noticed while applying security in the capabilities that If i give rights for user to edit reports, it is universal. So, the user can edit reports from any folder.

Is there a workaround? Thanks for your time  ;D

Update:
I got the user to have ONLY traverse permission in folder B and it works!!

However, I want the user to copy reports from A to B. As of now the user can only copy reports to 'My Folder'. Is there a way to get the user to move reports to B????????

Please help.Thanks

Not possible unless you go down to report level security.

The user has to have "write" rights on B in order to add anything to this folder.

If user has "Write" permissions for the folder, the user can edit reports in it UNLESS user doesn't have write permission for the report. In your workflow, that would require manual intervention as the user is the one copying the reports.
If the user has no "Write" permission on folder B, the user will not be able to move any reports there. So, in your workflow, what you ask seems impossible.
