Title: Cognos 8.4 service not started

Hi All,

When i try to start cognos in configuration console im getting below error msg

[ ERROR ] The mail server cannot be reached.
[ ERROR ] A service with the same name, 'IBM Cognos 8', is already registered.
Please rename the IBM Cognos 8 service.

Please help me out how to resolve this.

Looks like either you tried a second install, in which case you need to rename the service;
or
It's a reinstall (whether upgrade or not), and the uninstall wasn't clean -- for this, uninstall everything and go through and manually erase any lingering folders, registry entries and services, then reinstall

I was also facing the same problem we face such problem when we are going for second installation.May be your trying second installation on the same machine.
Better uninstall properly have registry clean and try ..It works. Good luck  :)

yeah ; u can try renaming the service before you do an uninstall.
