Has anyone been able to get Cognos8 running on II7. I have Vista Ultimate. Whilst I understand C8 is not officially supported on this platform, it should still work ;)
C8 installs just fine so long as you install as administrator. When I try and run http://localhost/Cognos8 it is asking to download 'cognos.xtsstartwel=no'. Nothing happens from here...
I must have some security/configuration parameters wrong. Help would be greatly appreciated as I'm not an IIS expert!

I'm replying to initial post as it didn't seem to let me reply from the email you sent :)
I didn't edit any of the HTML files and when I tried to remove startwel=yes it just went ahead and asked to download cognos.xts. ....

Looking into this as well as your Tomcat issue, these environments are not supported by Cognos. Windows Vista, II7, and anything above Tomcat 4 is considered unsupported. As I am for you in your endeavor to use the cutting edge technology, the problem is if your environment does run into any problems, Cognos support will not be able to help you through your situation. I'm sure they would appreciate it from the standpoint that it helps them identify issues, but I would not recommend for a production environment.
I will admit though, I have been playing with upgrading their Java 1.4.2 to Java SE 6 and upgrading tomcat from 4 to tomcat 6. If I run into any success with these I'll be sure to let you know. Granted, I probably will not be using this in our production environment, but am doing this for my own edification.
I've hit a few problems with Java 6 in that its not entirely compatible with what I have so far to create the cryptography needed. This was after I went out and downloaded the bouncy castle jar files to try and solve this with no success.
So far the most recent supported versions of software you are using for a Windows Platform:
Windows Server 2003
Tomcat 4
JRE 1.4.2 -- 1.5.0 is supported
IIS 6 for Web Server.

Make sure you allow ONLY READ on /cognos8 and ONLY EXECUTE on /cognos8/cgi-bin.
