Title: 128 bit encryption in Cognos 8.4
Post by: Abhishek_Gaur on 17 Jun 2013 01:22:38 AM
Hi,
Is there a way of enabling 128 bit encryption in a Cognos 8.4 application.
If yes, is there something available in inbuilt in Cognos, or do we need to depend on some add-on applications.

This is a security requirement for an application I am working on.

Thanks,
Abhishek

I tried the same thing 2 years ago, IBM advised 8.4 only can use 64bit.

Hi,

Yes - you can use 128bit encryption in Cognos 8. By default it shipped with 56bit encryption (it was as a result of Cognos being a Canadian company and needing to keep the embedded encryption low. This was because the Canadian government classed anything with higer encryption as a military product, and would have levied huge export duties, I'm told). You will need your own 128bit Certificate Authority, and then you will need to configure Cognos 8 to use it.
