Title: Metric Studio C8 Issue
Post by: jithuv on 18 May 2007 07:40:05 AM
Hi all,

We are facing a problem with Metric studio. We have 3 different modules for which we need to implement metric studio.

We need to have 3 seperate  metric packages as we need

Individual summaries(Fast fallers,Worst Metrics,Best metrics etc.) for each of the modules.

The issue is that even though we have 3 packages ,we find the metric types ,scorecards and groups of each of them in all the packages(metrics of all 3 are visible in each of them ) and deleting will reflect on each of them . All of them refer to the same metric Store.

One way out is to have seperate metric stores but this NOT at all feasible as there can more modules in the future .

Please do send your suggestions.

Thanks in Advance.

I am new to the COGNoise web site, but have been building Cognos BI and Data Warehouse solutions for over 10 years.

I have had extensive experience with Metric Studio 8 as we helped one of our clients transition from Metrics Manager to Metrics Studio as soon as it became available.  I do have a couple of questions based on your description below.  However, you should be able to avoid creating multiple Metric, in fact that is one of the big gains in moving to Cognos 8.  In Cognos 8, all of the content is built around packages, whether it is a cube, report metadata, metrics package, etc, it is all just a package.

Can you clarify what exactly you mean when you say "3 Modules"?  Are you referring to groupings of KPIs as Modules?

What are you using to create your metric types and individual metrics?  I would highly recommend using Metrics Designer if you are not currently using it.  This will enable you to leverage your existing development of Framework Manager models and cubes.  Furthermore, leveraging existing metadata and cubes ensures that your structures are consistent across different tools, if that is something you would like.

If you can answer the following questions, I will do my best to help you out.

1.  What do you mean by module?
2.  What are you using for the data source of your metrics? (cubes/framework manager/flat data/manual)
3.  Where are you defining the scorecard hierarchy?
4.  Do you have access to Metrics Designer?
5.  Do you have access to Cognos cubes?

I will look for your reply.
