Title: Cognos Upgrading from 10.1.1 to 10.2.1
Post by: danii64 on 16 Apr 2014 11:53:16 AM
Hi All,

I  have several questions regarding an upgrade from Cognos 10.1.1 to 10.2.1.
I have multi tiered environment, with two dispatchers and a gateway server.
This is my first upgrade so please forgive me for newbie questions, if you can explain your answers, it would be greatly appreciated.
Will this install be over the existing installation or is this is a clean install on the existing servers but on separate directory?
Can i have two environment (existing 10.1.1 and new 10.2.1) running on the same server simultaneously?
Can IIS have two separate instances of cognos at the same time?
Is there any common issues i need be aware of before i start the process?

Thank you!

You can either uninstall 10.1.1 and install 10.2.1 into the same folder structure, or you can install 10.2.1 in a separate folder structure alongside 10.1.1 - it's your choice.

Yes. You will need to use separate content store databases for each instance, different port numbers, and set up different virtual directories in the web server. Be aware that the combined instances will potentially have twice the CPU processing and memory requirements of a single instance, so make sure your server is up to the job of running both simultaneously.

Yes. You will need to set up different virtual directories for each instance.

Just those I mentioned above really. Make sure your server has enough physical resources for two instances. Make sure each instance uses a different content store. Make sure each instance uses different port numbers in the configuration, and make sure you use different virtual directories in the web server.

Cheers!

MF.

I too am considering the upgrade to 10.2.1 from 10.1.1, but I am still uncertain if I should. The main concerns with the upgrade is:
How much of a difference will I see in performance?
I have seen the presentations from IBM with their statistics of improvements, but they are not specific to 10.1.1 -> 10.2.1.

Advise?
Thank you!
