Title: Select Value Filter
Post by: cognos05 on 25 Aug 2014 11:42:16 AM
H i I am using a column chart to show the top 5 reps  for the FY2014 and another column chart showing top 5 distributors for FY2014. I have included the product data item in both of queries, but they are not present in chart layout.

Now I wanted my select value filter to show my product data item and when i select items there my chart should reflect.

Is this possible.

Thanks,
Nithya

Yes.

You haven't told us if you're using a dimensional package or a relational package. The solution for each will be somewhat different.

Its a dimensional package. And also looking in to another case which is similar, I am showing a pie chart with Sales on different products. I want a select value filter for this pie chart which would show different reps. I have added the rep level in the query of pie chart. But its not visible in select value filter. It shows the item only in chart layout.(i.e)Product

Hi All,
Attached a sample image ,which shows sales contribution by region, Sales Contribution by customer for individual reps...

I have charts based on product and revenue. I want to have a select value filter which would allow me to choose sales rep and show the corresponding data.

Should my sales rep be a part of query or a slicer.
I added it in slicer but still the select value filter doesn't shown these reps.

Thanks,
Nithya

Hi All,

Tried adding sales reps to slicer , but still I am not able to get them in select value filter.Should the item be in layout?
I dont think so , then the ideal use of dashboard will go away..
Can anyone suggest me how to achieve this.

Thanks,
Nithya

If you're using a dimensional package, all you should need to do is to drag the desired groups of members into the context area at the top of the page.

Cheers!

Hi MFGF,

I am able to drag member to the context filters , but not a level to a context filter.

I wanted sales rep in the context filter. I am doing this is the cognos report studio and then will drag this report to cognos workspace.

I drag and drop the sales rep level to context filter, but it doesnt allow me..but say if i drop one salesrep(single member) then it accepts.

Thanks,
Nithya

That's correct. Select all the members from the level and drag these into Context.

Select all the Sales Rep members and drag these to your context area.

You can't drop a level in there - just one member or a selection of members.

Cheers!

can't I use descendants(set(east,west,north), rep level)

Dragging all say100 reps won't it be difficult...

just thinking if there is no other option.

thanks,
Nithya

Nope - sorry - context is member-based. I'd suggest that 100 items is rather too many for a Select Value filter in Cognos Workspace, though.

No ideally its not 100 ...say 1 distributor will have 10 reps..but this will be based on the login of distributors and how cognos security handles...I can create one report with 100 reps and same will be used for all distributors based on their security.

I will try and see what happens.

1) And one  ore question is the items in the context filter text are shown above my control while running the report.. Is there a way to hide them.

Thanks,
Nithya

Hi All,

In cognos workspace  is there a way to hide the labels shown in the context filter above the controls used..

I only need select value filters to filter the data..but the selected filter value is shown above the controls used.

Thanks,
Nithya
