Title: User doesn't get warning message when saving in restricted folders.
Post by: andy_mason_84 on 18 Nov 2014 04:23:07 AM
Hi All,

So we have 3 types of users, Admin, Read & Write.

Admin can save anywhere.

Write can only save in specific folders.

Read cannot write anywhere.

When we log into Cognos as a Write/Read user and try and save in a folder we only have read access too Report Studio/Workspace Advanced allows us to save/save as and it throws no error messages.  However it doesn't actually save anything.  It doesn't overwrite the report they are trying to save or allow them to save a new entry which is the behaviour we want but at the same time this could cause users to lose their work thinking they have saved work when they haven't.

Now when we set the security up on Cognos 10.1.1 these users used to get an error message telling them that they could not save in the folder.

Since upgrading to 10.2.1 (FP5) we have lost these error messages.

Any ideas why or how this can be resolved?

Cheers,

Andy

When you are logged in as the Write/Read user, click on the "More..." option for the target folder. One of the options is "View my persmissions...". Does it show you have write permissions? Also, are you sure it did not actually save it and just cannot be seen? Save something as the Write/Read user, then log back in as the Admin user, do you then see the saved report?

With the users with read/write have you explicitly set the 'Write' permission on that folder as 'Deny' or have you just left it blank?

Also is it 2 seperate groups as in:

A) Read + Write
B) Read

and the user is a member of either A or B

Or is it:

A) Write
B) Read

and the user is a member of A and B

Hi - thanks for the replies.

I have left it blank and not ticked 'Deny'.

Users can only by in one of the groups.

so it is in the way you described:
A) Read + Write
B) Read

Do I need to explicitly Deny?

Just to add to this response.

I have explicitly said 'Deny' and that has not made a difference.

When i click on more and view my permissions our Write User only has Execute ,Read, Traverse
