Title: Automating Enable/Disable of data sources in Cognos
Post by: bindrasam55 on 06 Feb 2015 08:28:38 AM
Hi All,

Is there a way to automate the enable/disable of data sources in Cognos?? Can we write some windows script to do this task?

Is there a equivalent method / utility in Cognos 10 or it is not possible at all?

Yep - I wonder this too. Why? it sounds like a very unusual request. Can you give us more information on what this achieves? There may be a simpler way of doing things than this - but it all depends what the end goal is.

MF.

We had a use case once where we needed to disable datasources during a database password change so that running reports would not lock out the account while the environment & database was being updated.  We ended up developing our Signon Blasters module in MetaManager to automate the password change so that there wouldn't be any real downtime.  We still have the ability to enable and disable datasources in bulk though.  We can do it in our Object Editor module or as a script if it's a frequent task.

bindrasam55, Let me know if you're interested in seeing how to do it in MetaManager.

Thanks,
