Title: FOCUS reports to Cognos
Post by: OSUCognosUser on 26 Feb 2015 03:25:28 PM
Forgive me if this isn't the correct place to ask but Oklahoma State University is in the process of installing Cognos.  We have hundreds of reports to convert from FOCUS to Cognos.  Anyone have experience doing this type of conversion that we could possibly use as a resource if we get stuck or have issues?

Let me know and thanks!

Hi,

I have no experience of FOCUS reports, but I'd fully expect the process of moving over to Cognos involves re-writing each report from scratch (ie there are no migration tools I know of). I'd suggest you use the exercise as an opportunity to review the existing FOCUS reports to see which are still relevant and in use. You may find that 200 FOCUS reports might, in fact, be 20 or so "core" reports, each with a different filter or display type? If so, you could replace them with 20 Cognos reports and add prompts to allow different filters, and maybe use Cognos Workspace to allow users to change the display types as desired?

Good luck!!

MF.
