Hello,
I took the administrative reins of our Cognos 10.2.1 server when it was already up and running, so this is my first time installing Cognos. I have what's probably a silly question but I'm having issues finding a definitive answer. In the older versions of Cognos it used Apache's Tomcat, which is open-source and I never gave it a second thought.
However Cognos now installs Websphere. I honestly don't know much about it but I know it can be very costly to set up a normal instance of it. I can't find anything online about hidden or additional licensing costs regarding Websphere as Cognos is using it, but I thought I should check if anyone has more detailed information than what I can find, which resulted in them exploring other application server options.
I imagine if there was anything about IBM charging more due to Websphere's inclusion I would have found something about it, but I may just be having a bad "google-fu" day. :)
Regards,
Nicholas
Cognos installs with a "cut down" version of Websphere Application Server called "Websphere Liberty Profile". This includes only what is required by cognos without all the extra stuff that WAS comes with.
There are no additional licensing implications - as long as you are correctly licensed for Cognos, there is no implication for the Websphere Liberty Profile that is installed. However that would change if you upgraded to full Websphere Application Server.
Thanks for the reply!
I thought it was something like that, I just wasn't finding anything which explicitly said it. As long as people here haven't been hit with additional costs, I figured I was fine. :)

Nicholas
