Title: How to cascade default date with value prompt
Post by: inu on 15 Sep 2016 01:34:47 AM
Hi Team,

I created one value prompt1, where static choices are there as yesterday and other_date
second prompt is in built date prompt2.
when we run the report, data displays based on  default date i-e current_date.

But before selecting other_date in value prompt1, date prompt is enabled.. that should not be enabled.

So how to cascade date prompt with value prompt.
Thanx in advance....

Regards
Inma

Have you set the Cascading Source property? Here's a tutorial on how to setup cascading prompts:

Date prompts don't have a cascade property. Cascading is a technique used to filter one prompt query using the selection of the other. If you want to cascade you will have to use a different prompt type which supports it.

It depends on your data, your requirements, users, etc. There's no right answer as to which one you should use.

Thanks... But you are trying to make it more complex and turning the requirement to other direction.

Just put some text on the prompt page to say that the date prompt is only effective if the user selects "Other Date"

Regards,

Jay is trying to help you. He's giving you correct advice but either you don't seem to understand what he's telling you, or else you're ignoring what he's saying. You asked how to cascade a date prompt. Jay told you that Date prompts don't cascade. You then asked him what other type of prompt you should be using. He replied that there is no arbitrary answer. You need to use whichever prompt type is appropriate for the requirements of the report. Your response above seems rather rude and does not acknowledge the fact that Jay is helping you out of the goodness of his nature and of his own free will, in his own time. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he decides not to assist you any further. This isn't the first time you have been rude to other forum members trying to help you. Consider this post a warning not to continue with this behaviour, Inu.

Hi,

Just so we're clear, you might not think you are being rude, but the post above could easily be taken as such. Maybe it's just a language barrier issue? In the long run, it's in your best interests not to upset the people who are trying their best to help you. Perhaps a little thought and review of your entries before you press the Post button might prevent this misunderstanding from happening in future? Consider this some friendly advice that might help you going forwards :)

No worries - I figured words translate differently in another language  :) But yes, in English your comments come off as rude, even though you may have not intended it.
