Title: Burst to Content Store Folders
Post by: Ricardo Julio "Ricky" Villa on 29 Sep 2016 06:02:22 AM
Hi,

Has anyone burst report output to content store folders?  Documentation suggests so but I cannot find any examples online.

If so what is the syntax for creating a recipient data item, e.g.

should this folder path:
/content/folder[@name='Audit']

be written as this in a data item:
'/content/folder[@name="Audit"]'

Any advice much appreciated.

Cheers,

Ricardo

You cannot do so without some sort of SDK solution.

I wish Cognos would change their terminology because you're not the first to be confused by this. When you see "Directory entries", what they mean is the Cognos directory of users and groups -- ie: like a phone directory. They are not referring to a computer definition of a directory (folder).

Bursting will save all outputs to the location where the report is saved. Each output is secured against the CAMID that you burst on. When a user views the report outputs in this location, they will only see those burst outputs that match their CAMID.

So there is no folder path to provide. You will need to provide the CAMID of a user, group, role or distribution list.

Hi CognoidJay,

Thanks for your reply.

It's actually more annoying as if you select help when in the Report Studio Burst Options the following text is given:

In the Type box, choose the method to burst the report:
Click Automatic to let IBM® Cognos® Business Intelligence determine from the data item whether to email reports or send them to folders in IBM Cognos Connection.
Click Email addresses to distribute reports by email.
Click Directory entries to distribute reports to folders that recipients can access in IBM Cognos Connection.

Are you sure that it is not possible to burst to folders?  Anyone else able confirm?

Thanks,

Ricardo (used to kick a ball around, now develops Cognos)
