Title: Cognos Connection String
Post by: Asad Ch on 05 Oct 2016 06:07:34 AM
I want to build separate cognos string connection, for report user and self service user (Users who are extracting reports use one connection and users who are using self service use other connection to db). Can anyone please guide.

Hi,

You can create multiple connections and multiple signons, and assign security accordingly.

If you click Set Properties on the signon and go to the Signon tab, you can assign which groups/roles/users have access to that signon. By default, the Everyone group is assigned.

You can also set permissions on the datasource connection by going to the Permissions tab.

For permissions, you'll need Read, Execute and Traverse.

Hi thanks for your response.
Can u please guide, that in teradata database logs table there is only one user id appearing for all cognos logs. Where we have to pass this id in the parameter string. Is there any back end or server side modification required? if one string connection to db is already running and we are going to make the 2nd connection string.

Hi,

- Log on to IBM Cognos Connection as an administrator.
- In IBM Cognos Connection, in the upper-right corner, click Launch, IBM Cognos Administration.
- On the Configuration tab, click Data Source Connections.
- Click on the datasource you want to access the connection.
- Click on the connection to access the signon
- Click 'Set Properties' on the signon, and then click on the Signon tab
- You will see the groups, and roles that have access to this signon. You may optionally change or remove roles for that signon. To see the signon credentials, click on Edit the signon...
- To create another signon, exit back to the list of signons and click New Signon

For each signon, assign the group/roles that have access to it using the instructions above.
