Title: Filter Values in the second prompt based on the value selected in first prompt
Post by: vivek.bevan on 28 Jul 2008 09:01:31 AM
Hi All,

We are having a requirement of filtering the values shown in the second filter based on the value of the first filter. Could someone please advice on whether this is possible in cognos.

Thanks,
vivek

Yes, you can use a cascading prompt. There are more advanced prompt techniques on the Cognos Knowledge Base. But for just a cascading prompt, you should be able to find that in the Help->Contents in Report Studio.

Hey Thanks for the reply.
Sorry for not making the requirements clear.
I have already tried cascading prompt but it only works if your source prompt is a "single selected" prompt.
I have a requirement where my source prompt is multi selected. From the help contents it says we need
to have a prompt button associated with the first prompt .When you are done with selecting multiple values from the source prompt you can click the the prompt button which will trigger the filtering in the second target filter. This "prompt" button looks very unnecessary in the UI . Is there any other way where we can
select multiple values from the source prompt and still filter out the values in the second cascaded filter automatically. I am not sure if this is possible by using some extra javascript coded with cognos.

Hey Vivek,

Make ur First Prompt as multi-select (Using IN in the filter  ;))
Instead of adding a prompt button near the prompt, change the Next button type to Re-Prompt

Hey this is correct but what if there are 5 multiselect filters and after selecting values from each filter we need to press reprompt button every time. So in this case I  have to press reprompt button 4 times.
Is there a way to automatically do this ..?

Hi Rajesh,

Add a reprompt button in your prompt page.
