Title: How to tell which tool a user is using or "logging in with"?
Post by: RodgerKanis on 04 Aug 2009 03:07:06 PM
Hi All,

I've perused and queried the audit logs to no avail.

Is there a way to verify which TOOL a user has started in Cognos?  I can tell what reports and packages are being utilized, but now I'd like to HOW they are being utilized.

Reason:  Trying to shuffle around author licenses to those that really need them, so we are auditing the users to see if they are actually using the Report Studio capabilities to actually build something, or are they just running reports in Cognos connection.

I looked on the new IBM Cognos support area (yuck), but couldn't find anything applicable.

Thank you,
Rodger

Hi Rodger,

Did you ever figure this out?  We're also looking into licensing shuffling.

TIA

Have you tried this?

[Audit].[Actions by Object].[TARGET TYPE] in ('POWERPLAYCUBE', 'POWERPLAYREPORT', 'QUERY', 'REPORT', 'REPORTVIEW')

This tells you which tool they are logging with.
