Hi Anyone,
We are going to upgrade Cognos from 8.2 to 8.4, Does anyone can provide the following information.
1. Difference between 8.2 to 8.4 in Architecture ?
2. Can i updgrade Framework Manager with minimal efforts or should i create new package in 8.4?
3. All the reports can easily upgrade or any process i have to follow ?
4. Any helping material for this ?
1. Difference between 8.2 to 8.4 in Architecture ? : There are some internal java structure changes but i am not too deleved into those, so sorry to explain more.
2. Can i updgrade Framework Manager with minimal efforts or should i create new package in 8.4? : This is purely depends on the complexity of your model. So suggest to do the same actions in test env with the same upgrade plan
3. All the reports can easily upgrade or any process i have to follow ? : I would recommend to create a test environment and test all reports. There are some changes in java scripts , if you have used
4. Any helping material for this ? there are soem java script change KB documents and also you can refrer the fix list

Hi,
It's not a migration, it's an upgrade. If you have not coded specific javascript into your Report Studio reports, it should in theory be a very straightforward process.
1. The architecture is the same (though the xml specs are slightly different).
2. The FM projects should automatically upgrade when you open them in 8.4 FM.
3. The report specs should also upgrade when you start the 8.4 Cognos 8 service.
4. It's the same process as moving from 8.1 to 8.2, or 8.2 to 8.3:
1. Back up your content store and make a copy of your configuration folder under program files\cognos\c8.
2. Uninstall Cognos 8.2
3. Install and configure Cognos 8.4. When you press start in Cognos Configuration, it should prompt you to upgrade the report specs.
4. Open and save the FM projects in FM 8.4.
As Usecog suggests, it may be worth installing 8.4 into a test environment and trialling the process there if you have the opportunity.
