Title: High Queue time limit !
Post by: cognosun on 19 Jan 2010 12:01:51 AM
By default the Report Service "Queue Time Limit" is 240 seconds...and for specific tuning purposes Cognos suggests that we can maximize this upto 360 seconds.

Can anyone tell me the disadvantages if the "Queue Time Limit" is set to some 3000 seconds !!

Assuming that Cognos server is installed on UNIX  :)

Hi,

Increasing the Queue Time Limit to 3000 seconds would potentially mean that a) the queues on the report services could get very big, causing a large processing backlog, and b) users could get very frustrated if they have to wait up to 50 minutes before getting a response to their request to run a report.  If queuing on the report services is an issue, the best solution is to add more hardware which will allow the number of report services (and possibly connections) to be increased to accommodate the demand.

Hi,

Sure.  If you are going to allow items to sit in the queues for up to 50 minutes without being cancelled, you could potentially end up with hundreds of requests stacking up in the queues.
