Title: Cognos Planning 8.4 - Move database applications to another SQL Server
Post by: dtipser on 26 Apr 2010 10:08:14 AM
Hi,

I want to move (transfer) all databases Cognos PLanning applications, as well as COGNOS_PLANNING_STORE (meta data database) to another SQL Server instances (new server). Is somewhere a procedure that explain how to do it with minimum of risk (change connections to new server, etc..).

Thanks in advance.

Use the built in deployment functionality to avoid problems.

Hi,

I'm not a Plannining user, nor Planning administrator (I'm a DBA), so unfortunately I'm not aware about built in deployment functionality. Could you be more explicit?

Thanks.

Hello,

check contributor administration documentaion on Deployment on IBM websites, this part is taken from documentIBM® Cognos® 8 Planning - Contributor Administration Guide

-----cut-----
Deploying the Planning Environment and Viewing the Status
of Deployments
You can export or import complete models, macros, administration links, or Analyst libraries with
or without the associated data from IBM Cognos 8 Planning - Contributor or Analyst. You deploy
a model by exporting it from one environment and importing it into another.
Export a Model
You can export a model structure, with or without data, to move between development, test, and
production environments or to send a model with or without data to IBM Cognos Customer
Resource Center.
When you export a model, IBM Cognos 8 Reports, Events, or Framework Manager Models associated
with the Planning Network are not exported.
The model structure and data are exported to the deployment directory location set in IBM Cognos
Configuration.
You can backup an application by exporting it, but we do not recommend this as a substitute for
database backup.
We recommend that you sign in to all namespaces
