HI
I have set up the users so that they can either see the predefined reports or use the 'Run with' option to run the report in the required output format. When using the Run with option they can only View the report and cannot save it. Till there everything is as expected.
The problem is they also have the option of using 'advanced options'. In here if they chose 'Run in the background:', they get the option of saving to filesystem or emailing the report.
Is there a way to secure advanced options or the Run in the background option?
Thank you for your suggestions

Bump!!!
Any ideas on this guys?
There is definitely a way to secure these actions in Cognos Connection. Which version of Cognos 8 are you using? Feel free to message me and I can walk you through it.
I'm on 8.4 FP2
What I want to do is sercure the advanced properties so that i can give access to desired users. I do not want to hide the options by modifying the system.xml
That's great, glad you are on a current version. To change this, go into Cognos Administration -> Security -> Capabilities. Then, drill down on Cognos Viewer until you see Run With Options. Go ahead and assign this capability to the users/groups/roles you wish to use it!
Let me know if I can help further.
Thanks for the prompt response but that is not what i'm trying to achieve.
if you click on Run with Options, on the right side of the page, there is this
To specify a time to run the report, or for additional formats, languages, or delivery options, use advanced options.
This Advanced options is what i'm trying to secure
Okay, so that will definitely require some customization of the system.xml file.
If I may ask, why allow them to enter the Run With Options if you intend to disallow them to use it? Maybe you are better off setting up Report Views for your users that have default run options preconfigured by an administrator.
Do you have experience with Report Views?
Report views wouldnt work since i need to give the users the flexibility to select different output formats as well as the ability to save the report. Having 1 Report view per output format for every report is not really feasible.
I just dont want them to save it to the file system
So the issue is that the users are saving reports to the file system. Looking at open cases internally at IBM, I would say the easiest way to manage that would be to restrict access to those file system directories for the users in question.
