Email delivery timeout to smtp server

Hello,

I have a troubling error in Cognos 8.3 FP 5.  At random intervals an emailed report will stall with an error message of the following:

CNC-SDS-0408          There are email messages waiting to be sent. June 24, 2010 6:05:59 AM 
CNC-SDS-0410 The email message was not sent. Approximate message size: [33 KB] The Mail server returned this error: [451 4.7.0 Timeout waiting for client input ]
June 24, 2010 6:05:59 AM 
CNC-SDS-0335 Error returned from SMTP Server. The error message was: [451 4.7.0 Timeout waiting for client input ]. The message could not be sent.
June 24, 2010 7:06:13 AM 
CNC-SDS-0409 The email messages were sent to 1 recipients.


After an hour it will resend successfully. 


IBM suggested to turn on the xml file(not sure of the name at the moment) but it produces the crnclient.log file to capture all communicate to the smtp server.  I did that and all i get from the log is that cognos makes a connection but doenst send the message and smpt closes the active session. 

I believe this also can cause the delivery service to stop responding causing all message to go into a waiting status and queue.  Restarting the service restores the connection. 

At this point if i can solve the timeout error i think that could take care of delvery service not responding. 

SMTP admin asked for a succeeded message and a failed message, to decipher the difference but cognos doesn't store the messages without turning on addtional xml it appears. 

Does anyone have experience working with the 'smtprules-custom.xml?  this is suppose to be the xml that will save messages on the local file system.

Allen Krause, how did you resolve your problem? I have the same issue "CNC-SDS-0409 The email messages were sent to 1 recipients" but I didn't get any e-mails.
Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.

I always get complaints from user getting this error

CNC-SDS-0408          There are email messages waiting to be sent. June 24, 2010 6:05:59 AM

and report/job goes into  waiting .Please let me know how to solve it
