Reporting / Re: Pie Charts - Issue with color of values in the Legend
« Last post by MFGF on 19 Jan 2022 07:12:19 am »
Hi,

I am working with an existing report (dashboard) that has some pie charts with the same properties set except for the queries.
The slices of the pie in all charts represent the same column (data item).

For example: If there are four pie charts,  then all of them have the same 'Indicator' as the query item representing the pie slices where the indicator has values like 'Completed', 'Incomplete', 'Stuck'.
The issue is that a couple of the charts out of all have different colors for the legend values ('Completed', 'Incomplete', .......).

In other words, the colors of items in the legend is not consistent among  all the pie charts in the dashboard when it comes to the legend values/slices of pie even though the properties set are the same for all the charts. This is urgent for me so please suggest.

Hi,

Just to confirm - this is a report, not a Cognos Dashboard?

Moving ahead on the basis this is a report, if I'm understanding correctly, the issue is that the colours used in the legend (and therefore the colours of the pie slices) are not consistent for the items shown in the pies. For example, in one chart , 'Completed' might be red and 'Incomplete' might be blue, but in another chart 'Completed' might be blue and 'Incomplete' might be red?

One important question is what charts/visualizations you are using. Assuming this is Cognos 11 (as you're posting in the Cognos Analytics board), you could be using Cognos 10 AVS charts, Cognos 10 RAVE visualizations, Cognos 11.0 Java charts or Cognos 11.1 Javascript charts. Some of these provide the ability to define a conditional pallete (eg the AVS charts do). This is what you need to look at implementing.

The details for this are in the documentation - here is a link:

https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/cognos-analytics/11.1.0?topic=properties-creating-conditional-color-palette-in-chart

Cheers!

MF.

sorry for the delayed response. I'm also going 10 rounds with a Transformer cube  ;D That has brought up the swagger json file I can read it and see the options in there.

Administration and Security / Weird URL Issue
« Last post by VizWiz on 18 Jan 2022 04:24:42 pm »
Hello,

Alright, so unfortunately our environment uses a portlet. To make it worse, this portlet is embedded in another application with an iframe. To accomplish this, a URL is generated with some parameters thrown in there to make things return correctly. Albeit a cringeworthy solution, it has mostly worked ok in the past.

Fast forward to today, we upgraded to 11.1 R7 in our test environment and lo and behold--the embedded portlet no longer works. I took the URL generated by the application and copy/pasted into my browser and I'm getting a 404 error.

So my question is: can anyone point me in the right direction to resolve this? To me, this makes me think something is incorrectly configured with our web server. I've confirmed that the portlet itself works. If I navigate to the portlet and run it, it works just fine. It is specifically LINKING to the portlet that seems to be broken. Maybe something with portlets was deprecated for this release? Any help is appreciated; I'm really at a loss where to go next, other than asking our admin to open a ticket with IBM.

Thanks!

Reporting / Re: YTD Date Filter Query

Thanks for the help as this works perfectly. Let's say for example, I'd like to do a rolling 12 month here that always drops off 1 month. For example, if I run it today (January 17th 2022), it will capture this month and the previous 11 months of 2021 (i.e. it drops of January of 2021 and captures February 2021 - January 2022). If I run it next month, on say February 17th, it will do the same thing and drop off February of 2021 and run through March 2021 - February 2022.

Ultimately, I'm just looking for a rolling 12 month. I thought of changing the first part of the argument from "1 - month(current_date))" to "2 - month(current date))" but I think that doesn't account for the change in years.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the help!

Hi,

Have you tried:

[Date] between _first_of_month (_add_months (current_date, -11)) and current_date

That would give you everything from 1st February 2021 to the current date in January.

Cheers!

Dashboards / Custom widgets
« Last post by ember on 18 Jan 2022 06:48:53 am »
Hi,

I want to make custom widgets for Cognos Dashboards. I know the basics of making custom widgets, but I need more examples to make more komplex visualizations. So my question is that does Anybody know if the source code of Cognos built-in widgets are available for regular users?

Thanks,
Ember

Interesting! _month is one of the newer inbuilt functions - what version of Cognos are you using?

The month() function isn't a Cognos function, it is a database function. I generally recommend against mixing inbuilt Cognos functions and database functions in an expression if possible. An alternative Cognos function would be the extract() function, eg extract(month, current_date)

Cheers!

With the blank screen with the correct tab name, can you open the dev toolbar to the network tab?

Once the page loads it should attempt to load swagger.json. Can you see if it's stalling there? What happens if you load http://<server>:<port>/bi/api/api-docs/swagger.json

Hey CognosPaul. Thanks for the response. 2 environments one set up direct on the dispatcher one is set up through a web server. I've tried both set ups and all the different servers for each. I did have some partial success by changing the address to http://<server>:<port>/bi/api/api-docs/ but although the tab name comes up with Swagger UI it's just a blank screen that's coming back. There is a frustrating lack of documentation on it.
